From an observed gap to a reviewed article, with a person in charge.

Last reviewed 2026-10-19

Content Agent turns content gaps found in your AI answers into researched, fact-checked article drafts. A person reviews and approves every revision before anything is published, and GitHub is the only place it publishes.

The workflow#

  1. Brand context: Describe your company once, in Settings → Brand context. Articles need a reviewed brand context.

  2. Opportunities

Content Agent ranks gaps from your answers and Actions by priority score.

  3. Research

It searches and reads sources for the opportunity, then writes a brief.

  4. Draft

It writes the article from the brief, after showing you the credit cost.

  5. Review

Your team edits the draft, checks each claim against its sources and approves the exact revision.

  6. Publish: Virent opens a pull request in your GitHub repository. See GitHub publishing.

  7. Results

The article is linked to the prompts it targets, so you can follow them after it goes live.

Brand context#

Brand context is what every draft is written from: company facts, audiences, positioning, how you differ from competitors, voice, sources, claims you can make, and writing samples. Use confirmed onboarding fills a first version from your onboarding answers. Each save is a new version; reviewing it is a separate step, so drafts never use a version nobody checked.

Opportunities#

Open AI Content → Opportunities. Each opportunity shows its priority score, the prompts and answers behind it, matching pages you already have, and a suggested target: a new page, or an update to an existing one. From Actions lists opportunities handed over from Actions. Assess a prompt checks any tracked prompt for an opportunity.

Articles#

Start from an opportunity or a brief with New article. When the brief targets an existing page, the draft starts from that live page, imported as Markdown. Importing respects robots.txt and never changes the live page.

The article editor has these panels:

PanelWhat you do there
BriefRead and adjust the research brief the draft follows
ClaimsCheck each factual claim against its sources
ReviewComment, request changes, submit for review and approve
SEOSearch demand, search results and AI Overview observations, and a live page check
PublishPreview the exact files and submit the approved revision
ResultsThe prompts linked to the article and what changed after publication
HistoryEvery revision, review and publication

Saving warns you if someone else saved a newer version first.

AI credits#

Content Agent uses AI credits, an allowance separate from your Analytics volume and daily prompt monitoring.

Running one prompt on demand1 per answer
  • A draft is charged only when it reaches review. Failed or cancelled drafts cost nothing.
  • Each draft shows its price before it starts. With no credits left, new jobs don't start; there is no overage.
  • Monthly credits carry over for one month. Owners, admins and Billing members can set a Monthly spend cap in Settings → Billing.
  • Top-ups are opt-in: 500 credits for $60 or 1,500 for $170, valid for 12 months.

See Plans and billing for each plan's monthly credits.

Results after publication#

Results follows the prompts linked to the article on their normal daily schedule. Pause monitoring on an article leaves new runs out of its comparisons; the prompts keep running on their daily schedule. A change in mentions or citations after publication is an association: answers vary, and other things change at the same time. Content Agent never proves that an article caused traffic or revenue.

What Content Agent never does#

  • Publish, change or revert anything on your site without a person approving that exact revision.
  • Publish anywhere other than GitHub.
  • Contact anyone outside your workspace.
